Where to Shoot

A question of light and background

Being a freelance photographer I have a huge verity of mobile studio equipment including different backgrounds, lights and printers. These are suitable for both home locations and none studio venues, studios tend to come with required backgrounds and lights.

Home

I am often asked to shoot within people’s homes, these can be for something as simple as a family portrait session, or for a more elaborate shoot for intimate content subscription photographs.  For home shoots I use a selection of small space saving lights and simple backdrops, or appropriate room settings.

Venue

Similar to a home shoot, when shooting at non studio venues, such as hotels, village halls, ball rooms etc I use a larger selection of lights then that which would be used for home shoots. Normally such venues allow for a little more space and therefore allow for larger background / back drop options.

These type of venues are often used for celebrations, parties, formal balls, corporate events.  Some events are arranged in such as way as the organiser receives the photographs taken, some events photographs are sold directly to those being photographed.

Studio

I am often asked to shoot in “Studio’s”. Photographic studios are located all over the country and come with a verity of lights and background options. Different studio’s offer different looks and feels. So sometimes to get the right photographs the closest studio may not always be the best one for the session. Studios do incur additional costs to any photographic session, although these costs are normally very reasonable.

Location

Location shoots are normally set to a specific theme, arranged with a larger number of people, both participating or watching (audience), these range from local fairs, dog shows and village or country shows, to events such as a medieval reenactments, Steam Punk or a Cosplay events etc.  Normally the photography on these events is very mobile and often include the requirements to sell photos directly to members of the public or those participating in the events.

Outdoors

Outdoor shoots, normally unlike location shoots are aimed at a small group of people or and individual. Where the theme is being outside. Where shoots tent to use natural lighting rather then studio type lighting.
